it was a rare day in downer

so i thought i would share what makes me happiest at the moment. my two boys fast asleep IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. any mum of two knows what a rare treat this is. so i made a coffee, made the dinner, answered some emails and then had a ten minute snoozefest on the couch. sigh!

farmer o'ka

there is a terrific italian cafe in the most unlikely spot - lanyon homestead, in the outer, outer, outer-suburbs of canberra. we took john there for lunch when he was in town recently. oskar loves it because of the tractors, and chocolate milkshakes.

why o'ka? that is how carlo says his name...

john came to visit

finally, john gets to come to canberra for training for work. we picked him up at the airport and brought him home to meet the kids. he stayed a week and we dropped him off at the airport today. he brought with him most excellent badam burfi from evergreen sweet house, green park, new delhi. mmm, delicious...

thanks auntie jan and uncle dave

jan, queen of shopping, strikes GOLD, GOLD, GOLD with this little number.

best outift for april 2007 goes to...

oh brother, or while i was sleeping

oskar and carlo share the same back seat in the car. oskar wears gum boots, oskar throws gum boots in the car. we removed the boot before carlo woke up.

it's all about perspective

feed me

carlo likes his milk. breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, bedtime snack, middle of the night snack, early morning snack... but we have found out that he likes food just as much.

we suspected that he shared alex and my interest in all things vego-gastronomique (can't say the same for oskar cause he only likes gnocchi with pesto)because everytime we ate, he would reach for the food, mimic our chewing and even dared to snaffle the tiramisu off my spoon one night at don and franca's. those in the know about don's tiramisu, know that if you are lucky enough to get some, you do not share with anyone, not even your own son - very counter sesame street I know...

we decided at 5 months it was time, cause he was drinking me dry every meal. first food - organic rice cereal and milk - he ate the whole 2 tablespoons full and even fed himself.

he has since tried 3 cereal and banana, 3 cereal and plum, 3 cereal and apple, and you guessed it - 3 cereal and pear. YUM!!!!

30 / 3

alex comes home from work late - just as i am putting carlo to bed. carlo and i hear his voice coming down the corridor as he speaks to oskar. carlo turned his head towards the sound and says "da da". unbelievable, but true. alex heard him say it again on friday.

what does 4 square metres of sand look like? 23 / 3

a sandpit!!!!

after the beach play the week before, we decided that oskar's small sandpit no longer met his needs. so, we called in the truck, had 4 metres of sand dumped, the truck left (and ran over our letterbox on the way out), oskar played on the pile of sand, and then we lugged all that sand to the new sandpit in the back garden. however, 4 mts of sand is a helluva a lot - we didn't do our maths very well - and turned out to be far too much for the pit. alex decided to build a second one - and now we have matching sandpits for both oskar and carlo. i think alex is as excited as oskar!

before the pile was moved, oskar tested out his downhilling skills from the top of the pile on his mocomo. no tears.

22 / 3 at nonna and grandpa's

carlo decides it is time to roll from back to side to front. sorry no pics - we were all a bit stunned and excited

ok mum

our man carlo - 22 / 3

this day carlo practiced sitting up, standing up, laying down, and rolling over. some of these he has now perfected. but you will have to wait for the pics to find out which ones. laurice, see woof in the background.

meanwhile, oskar covers his brother in grass. again, carlo doesn't seem to mind...

how to celebrate 38?

mum, jan, dave, and our family headed to byron for a few days over my birthday. rented a house at wategoes, blah blah. the rest, they say is, 38. jan baked a fantastic cake - chocolate on chocolate, which oskar helped to ice, or should be eat the icing.

we spent the day swimming and building sand castles and taking in the sun. perfect.

oskar shares his toys - 14 / 3

carlo reclined on the couch and oskar decided it was time to introduce him to the lego...
thankfully he didn't throw any of it. it was all just gently placed around him and on top of him.
and carlo doesn't seem particularly worried.

so finally pics from march
